Ömer Fahreddin Türkkan Paşa (1868-1948) The Turkish commander who defended Medina during World War I. He was also closely interested in photography. His collection of more than 600 photographs was donated to IRCICA by his sons Selim Türkkan and Orhan Türkkan in 1985. The collection includes photographs of Fahreddin Paşa's military activities and operations in Medina, construction works such as wells and roads opened in Medina, Fahreddin Paşa's journey to Afghanistan upon his appointment as ambassador of the Turkish Republic, and his other missions in this region. The entire collection was identified and classified by the topography engineer and cartography expert Colonel Edip Özkale (1925-1992), who was IRCICA’s expert in charge of the archive of historical photographs.
