TERCÜMAN (1883-1917)

Tercüman was the first Turkish newspaper published in Crimea by İsmail Bey Gaspıralı (İsmail Mirza Gasprinskiy, 20 March 1851- 24 September 1914) once a week. The first copy of which was printed in Bahçesaray on April 22, 1883. Tercüman, which started to be published twice a week in October 1903, became daily after 1912. Its language was essentially plain Ottoman Turkish, occasionally supplemented with words and phrases from Crimean Tatar or other Turkish dialects.
