PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTION

IRCICA's photograph archive features numerous collections dating from different periods of history. Its largest collection consists of the Albums of Sultan Abdulhamid II, also known as Yıldız Albums, which contains around 36 thousand photographs taken between 1850 and 1916 in various regions of the world, mostly within the Ottoman geography. This collection constituted the nucleus of IRCICA's photograph archive, which grew over the years with donations received from various sources. The archive serves researchers' needs for references. Additionally, selections from the collections are published by IRCICA in thematic albums and showcased in exhibitions held in various countries. Presently, IRCICA is gradually opening its photograph collections to world-wide access through this digital platform.
