Ekrem Rüştü Akömer (1892-1984) the son of Minister of War Ömer Rüştü Pasha, Ekrem Rüştü Akömer graduated from the Military Academy in 1910. After receiving military training in Germany for two years, he was assigned to the Guards Regiment of Kaiser Wilhelm II. He served as an aide to Müşir Liman von Sanders in the Çanakkale front and the Yıldırım Army Command during World War I. After the War of Independence, he became an aide to Caliph Abdülmecid Efendi. During the Republican period, he worked in some sports federations and opened the first swimming pool in Istanbul in 1931 and founded a swimming club. He worked as the Secretary General of the Turkish National Olympic Committee between 1930 and 1936. He also served as the general chairman of the Turkish Life Saving Society, which he founded in 1964. His collection of photographs of Caliph Abdülmecid Efendi, the National Struggle, and military training in Germany was donated to IRCICA.
